Dear Friends:
In an effort to better serve our clients,
good work network
is
making some changes in the way we provide our services.
These changes are designed to help us identify and work more
closely with a select group of clients who are committed to
taking their businesses to the next level. By focusing
resources on those clients who are most highly motivated to
improve their businesses and are most vested in the efforts
to achieve that goal, we feel that together we can achieve
even greater successes.
To this end, Good Work Network will implement
several changes effective March 1, 2007, that will improve
the quality and effectiveness of our services. First,
clients will be placed in on one of two categories, either
Network Members or Individual Members.
These client categories and related costs and benefits are
described in the enclosed flyer. The second change is that
appointments will be required for all sessions with business
counselor. This has become necessary due to the high demand
for counselor services.
We are excited about the opportunity these
changes give us to organize our time more efficiently and to
concentrate our efforts and resources on our most dedicated
clients. We are more committed than ever to connecting
our clients to the resources they need to succeed. We
truly believe that these changes will result in a more
effective allocation of resources and more measurable
successes for our clients. We look forward to working more
closely with you to take your businesses to the next level.
Sincerely,
Phyllis E. Cassidy
Executive Director

Micro Loan Access:
Although there is
NO GUARANTEE THAT PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A LOAN, participants who
are receiving technical assistance through the Business Boost
Program will have access to several loan programs with which Good
Work Network is affiliated. Although Good Work Network will
assist in making participants ready for loans and recommend
qualified participants to loans administrators, the loan fund
administrators will make all final loan decisions.
Trinity/ Hope Fund: Trinity Episcopal Church and Hope Community Credit Union have
established a loan fund for disadvantaged micro enterprises in the
New Orleans area. Loans will range from $5,000 to $15,000 and
relaxed underwriting standards will be used. Participants in the
Business Boost Program will be given preference to loans from this
fund.
NewCorp:
NewCorp, a local Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI),
has loan funds available to physically challenged and minority micro
entrepreneurs who have completed certain technical assistance
requirements.
SBA Community Express Loans:
These loans (available to the general public) are in the amounts of
$5,000, $10,000, and $15,000. Relaxed underwriting standards are
used and the application process is streamlined. The financial
institutions through which these loans are made determine who will
receive loans.
Trickle Up Foundation Grants:
Low-income participants whose businesses require minimal financing
are eligible to apply for $750 grant from the Trickle Up
Foundation. The Trickle Up Foundation relies on the recommendation
of its partner organization (of which Good Work Network is one) for
grant applicants, but reserves the right to make final determination
on grant recipients.
Other:
Other grants and loans programs are being actively pursued for
program participants.
Anticipated Outcomes
Participating businesses that complete the program
will acquire the following business tools:
A
comprehensive business plan that includes marketing strategies and
financial projections
A
functioning record keeping, accounting and billing system that can
be easily maintained
Increased
management and entrepreneurial skills
Connection
with a network of small businesses
Increased
revenues and/or customer base
Improved
financial stability
Participant Requirements
The Business Boost Program will establish a group of
about 40 micro enterprises that are willing to invest time to grow
their businesses. The value of the business consultation, back
office support services, and market access services is over $7,000.

months. After six months, fees may be charged on a sliding scale
basis (based on household income of the participant) for on-going
accounting services and customer referral services. Participants

that time. Although most of the program will be provided free of
charge, participants are required to commit the time and effort
necessary to increase the capacity of their enterprises.
